Can God Depend On You?

Whenever we think about reliance in the context of our relationship with God, it is usually in regards to the faith we are able to have in Him and His reliability. “Can I depend on God for this or that?” “Will He do what He has promised?” “Is He believable?” We look to God with expectations of things we want Him to make happen. But what about you? Can God look to you with expectation? Can He rely on you to become the woman He has called you to be?

I came face to face with this question when I honestly considered if I was living God’s purposes for my life. And when I accounted for why not, the list of reasons seemed long. At the top of the list-fear and insecurity. But it wasn’t about those things at all. What it really came down to was whether I was dependable; moreover obedient. A heavy price was paid so that I would be gifted and equipped to carry out God’s will. And being a woman He can rely on is being responsible with that gifting and equipping, and doing all that He expects of me. Had I been improperly handling what has been entrusted to me? Reluctantly, the answer was “No!” Not until I truly understood obedience to be a subcomponent of my faith did I become a loyal co-laborer with God reciprocating dependability in our relationship.

We have a tendency at times to see our faith as just believing God, but it takes obedience rooted in faith to say, “I believe you God and I will demonstrate it”. Your capacity to be someone God can trust is parallel to the measure of trust you’re willing to have in Him. The more faith you place in Him, the more faithful you become-attitude and action. A woman God can rely on is not merely a hearer; but she’s a doer who acts on His will. Only then, can she live up to His awesome expectations of her.

Lord, thank You for being the One I can believe in; but praise You for believing in me! Enable me to be a hearer and a doer of Your Word. In doing what You desire of me, I pray that I can show You at least half of the commitment You have shown me. Remind me every day that believing that I have a purpose is not enough for You; neither is discerning what that purpose is. You will be satisfied with nothing less than me taking action and fulfilling it!
