Do Whatever He Tells You!

“Do whatever God tells you (John 2:5)!” There are only seven recorded occurrences of Mary, the Mother of Jesus speaking in Scripture.  And these 5 words were her last.  A statement she made sometime long after the events that led up to and occurred during the birth of her son, Jesus.  Surely this was something that was much easier said than done for her. Of course, it was.  Truth is, Mary was able to utter these profound words now that she stood on the other side of seeing God’s impossible purpose made possible for her.

We’ve all heard the quote that, “Nothing in life, worth having, comes easy.” Mary understood this all too well as she made her great journey towards her destiny…towards motherhood. Looking back, she is reminded of the great chasm between her promise being spoken to her and it actually being fulfilled.  But it was in this chasm…“the in between” where she saw her faith building, her courage growing, and her obedience solidifying. This was where Mary became a woman who would do whatever the Lord told her.

When God desires for you to achieve the impossible, He never expects you to do it alone for that is altogether impossible.  He longs to join what is utterly divine about Him with what is innately human about you in order to manifest His will.  He only hopes that you will be:

  • Courageous enough to live up to His expectations of you;
  • Faithful enough to envision it will all come to pass; and
  • Obedient enough to act without understanding the details.

He will do the rest.  Mary’s wise words are not so much a command as they are an invitation (a call) to embrace the heart of a loving God towards you.  Are you ready for the plans He has for you?  Are you willing to let Him bring you to the promises He has kept for you?  Then go, be and do whatever He tells you my friend!
